Nigel Isaacs - Speaker at the NZGBA Energy Efficiency Conference 2010

Nigel Isaacs

Mr Isaacs is Principal Scientist, Energy and Environment at BRANZ  in Porirua City, Wellington. Nigel’s research over the past 25 years has looked at energy use in buildings, identifying how, why, when and where energy is used to help create opportunities for improved energy efficiency. Nigel led the Household Energy End-use Project (HEEP), completed in 2007, which monitored energy use and end-uses in over 400 houses around New Zealand. The results from HEEP have seen changes in New Zealand’s energy statistics; supported the development of the New Zealand Building Code; identified changes to electricity demand; and a wide range of new government, industry and research activities. Nigel now leads the Building Energy End-use Study (BEES) which is exploring energy and water use in non-residential buildings around New Zealand. Nigel also lectures at the School of Architecture, Victoria University of Wellington.

Christian Hoerning - Speaker at the NZGBA Energy Efficiency Conference 2010

Christian Hoerning

Christian Hoerning is Senior Technical Advisor Buildings at the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) in Wellington. He is originally from Leipzig/Germany where he studied Civil Engineering, worked as a building physicist at the building research and testing institute MFPA Leipzig GmbH and developed a keen interest in sustainable building. After moving to New Zealand in 2004 he worked as a Consulting Engineer and advised homeowners, architects and building contractors on energy efficient building design and retrofit solutions. Christian joined EECA in 2006 and has worked on a variety of government initiatives to promote energy efficiency, conservation and renewable energy in New Zealand, such as the Home Energy Rating Scheme, the home insulation and clean heating retrofit programme Warm Up New Zealand : Heat Smart and the Energy Spot television campaign.
