Sylvia Pilarsky-Grosch - Speaker Renewable Energy Conference

Sylvia Pilarsky-Grosch

Since 2007, Sylvia Pilarsky-Grosch is vice-president of the “German Wind Energy Association” (Bundesverband WindEnergie – BWE). After working in the Department for Environment of state Hesse, she has been acting as a lawyer and mediator for more than ten years in the field of wind energy.

Thereby, she is advising planners and operators of wind energy plants in all issues of law, from corporate and building law to possible conflicts with power authorities. Furthermore, she has been corporate attorney of the “Friends of the Earth” (BUND) for many years.

Jan-Benjamin Spitzley - Speaker Renewable Energy Conference

Jan-Benjamin Spitzley

Jan-Benjamin Spitzley is a lawyer. He studied at the University of Freiburg, as well as at the University of Geneva and the Graduate Institute of International Studies Geneva. In May 2004, he finished his studies of law with the “First State Examination” at the University of Münster.  He has a Master of International Law of the University of Sydney.

In the framework of his legal internship at the Higher Regional Court of Berlin (Kammergericht Berlin) he worked inter alia at the Foreign Affairs Committee of the German Parliament and at the Permanent Mission of Germany to the United Nations in New York.

Since November 2008, he is working for the eclareon GmbH as a policy consultant. Beside a project, analyzes the promotion of Renewable Energies within the European Union (RES-LEGAL), he is also organizing the international business trips of the German Chamber of Commerce in the framework of the Renewable Energy Export Initiative. Jan-Benjamin Spitzley is business fluent in English as well as in French.

Fraser Clark - Speaker at the Renewables Conference

Fraser Clark

Fraser Clark joined the New Zealand Wind Energy Association as its Chief Executive in September 2006.

In this role he has overall responsibility for NZWEA’s activities in promoting, encouraging and enabling the uptake of wind energy in New Zealand, both within the energy sector and to a wide range of stakeholders including central and local government, regulators and the public.

He has also been a member of the Technical Stakeholder Group that was responsible for the peer review of the Electricity Commission’s ‘Wind Generation Investigation Project’ and is a current member of the Commission’s Investment Advisory Group.

Fraser’s previous experience in the energy sector includes a role in generation development looking at potential new cogeneration, geothermal, landfill gas and wind generation projects, and some involvement in Fonterra’s EECA-award winning dairy factory energy reduction project.”

Mike Underhill - EECA

Mike Underhill

Mike Underhill joined the EECA team as Chief Executive in May 2007.

Mike was formerly Chief Executive of WEL Networks, and has spent many years in the gas and electricity sector in New Zealand and overseas.

He has a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, a Master's degree in economics, has completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard, and is a Fellow of the Institution of Professional Engineers.

Werner Bussmann - Geothermal Energy Network ENEW

Werner Bussmann

Werner Bussmann is a technical journalist. In 2009 he became president of the Geothermal Energy Network ENEW. Bussmann is also authorized representative of IGA Service GmbH. From 1991 until 2006 he was a board member of the German Federal Geothermal Association. Since 1992 he is editor of the technical journal “Geothermische Energie”.

Rilke de Vos - NIWA

Rilke de Vos

Rilke is an energy research engineer driven by the passion to see a transformation in the carbon intensity of energy use in New Zealand. Combining the skills of environmental and process (chemical) engineering, he has an impressive breadth of design and management experience. Rilke has had significant involvement with: offshore / onshore oil and gas petroleum refining, municipal solid waste gasifier and bio-fermenter development, fertiliser and metals recovery design as well as dynamic simulation of chemical and physical processes.

As a core member of NIWA’s National Centre for Energy Solutions and CAE’s Energy 21 group, Rilke is now focusing his energies towards increasing awareness and developing opportunities for alternative energy technology in New Zealand. He is currently involved with: distributed generation assessment and installation, energy pathway tools development and algae biomass conversion.
