Words from your AHK
As they say in German we hope you had a good "slide" into the New Year!
We have a number of staff changes to report this year.
We have managed to convince Oliver Rube that New Zealand is a wonderful country and he needs to stay on, in a full time position with the NZGBA looking after business development for us.
We have also employed a second full-timer – Sabrina Schulte – to look after administration and accounts. This will ensure that I can spend more time working with members directly.
Sadly we will be losing our long standing part-time accounts guru, Alexandra Gabler, as she is packing up the family to head back to old Germany.
Oliver is presently working on a series of events and workshops for 2010, however one we ask you to note now is the Oktoberfest – this is scheduled to take place on the 17th September. We are presently securing all sponsors for this – maybe your company is interested? Send me an email and I will happily explain the different sponsor options we have.
I look forward to talking to you this year!
Kind Regards
Monique Surges
CEO,
New Zealand German Business Association Inc.

Latest Research From Germany
Fraunhofer creates Turbo Potato
The skin is light brown, the meat luscious and yellow: from the outside alone, this new potato looks like any other. But on the inside, it is different. Its cells produce pure amylopectin, a starch used in the paper, textile and food industries. Researchers from Fraunhofer developed this new spud. More
In Search of Speed
In ski sports, it's often only a second that separates the winners from the losers. Using equipment made of the right materials can therefore make all the difference. Researchers are simulating the gliding effects that occur when skis travel over snow – and creating super fast skis. Read more about these turbo skis, how to stay safe in the snow and more research results from Fraunhofer.
RFID
Whether it's CD packaging, containers or identification cards: RFID tags (Radio Frequency Identification) are increasingly finding their way into everyday life. Up to now, extreme production temperatures made it impossible to equip metallic components with RFID chips during the operating process. Fraunhofer have worked on a variation on a process that makes the non-destructive integration of radio chips a reality. More
