BMW Oktoberfest 2010 Wrap Up

The Oktoberfest, one of Germany’s most successful exports, celebrated its 200th birthday this year. The New Zealand German Business Association celebrated its own (7th) Oktoberfest this year, a highly successful event with many participants calling this "Fest" one of the best ever.

NZGBA CEO Monique Surges acted as “Mistress of Ceremonies” through the evening. Together with President Erich Bachmann (picture) they enjoyed a night in traditional costumes. The Oktoberfest stands, above all, for togetherness, joviality and fun, and many had dressed for the event with lots of traditional dirndls, leather pants and Bavarian hats to be admired. |

The “Beer hall” at Sky City Auckland filled with over 300 people on Friday 17 September for a night of fabulous German food and drink, masses of entertainment and a number of BMW cars on display. The German carmaker was again the principal sponsor of this year’s crazy “German-Kiwi night”. Supporting sponsors were DB Schenker and Impex, the supplier of the favourite German beer of the evening. |

Generous members of the New Zealand German Business Association had supplied many wonderful items for the silent auction and the raffle, while the proceeds of the evening went to the Make a Wish foundation. |

The “Steinband” provided musical enterainment, with Miss Germany earning a standing ovation with her brilliant performance as “Miss Votta von Schlong”. The team of the NZGBA is certainly looking forward to their next Bavarian night in 2011. |
