Recent German History in Festival Movies2009 marks twenty years since the fall of the Berlin wall. The German Film Festival has brought twenty films from the past two decades to New Zealand. The festival took place in four different cities, Wellington, Auckland, Christchurch and Dunedin in November 2009. German and New Zealand visitors showed great interest in the program of the German Film Festival in New Zealand. |

Christian Schwochow’s film “November Child” (originally titled “Novemberkind”) opened the festival season in Auckland and introduced the changes that have affected so many lives since 1989. The fall of the wall marked a historical caesura that has transformed the everyday lives of ordinary people on both sides of the wall. |

From the11th to the 18th of November Auckland was the host city of the festival. The New Zealand German Business Association (NZGBA) organised a reception at Team McMillan in Newmarket. German and kiwi movie visitors met there for a cocktail before flocking to the premiere in the Rialto Cinema. More than 100 people , among them Ambassador Thomas Meister and Goethe-Institut director Christoph Muecher, were our guests. |
