Labour Market
The German workforce comprises over 40 million people with over 80% of the workforce having received formal vocational training or holding a degree from tertiary educational institutes, e.g. universities, universities of applied sciences. The majority of employees work in the service sector and manufacturing.
Salaries/Wages are determined in individual contracts of employment and are not to be lower than the minimum wage established in relevant collective agreements. However there is no minimum/statutory wage established in Germany.
The average working hours per week are 35 to 40 hrs, not exceeding 8 hrs per day, exemptions exists.
